Recently we were fortunate enough to be able to give three young students scholarships as they move on in their future educational endeavors! The recipients were: Tyler Orbin, Madison Southwick and Elijah Southwick.
We also had the opportunity to put in a fun day of work at the Sunflower House here in Shawnee!
Staring April 5th, 2016, the Kiwanis Club of Shawnee will be meeting on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, instead of every week. If there is a 5th Tuesday in a month, we will hold a meeting on that day as well.
We will now be holding the meetings at The Big Biscuit 12276 Shawnee Mission Parkway, starting at noon.

Rebecca Welsh (Founder & Executive Director) and Nicole Gerken (Director of Operations) from Halo Headquarters visited us today. Halo Foundation provides food, water, shelter, clothing, art therapy, and education. They have a unique approach that allows kids to help kids.
John has some great ideas going forward, not the least of which is forming PR committe, having a family social, and adding a Trivia Night fundraising project!
Our Governer and Lt. Governer (Mary Hammond and, Pat Hurrelbrink respectively) visited with us today. Mary gave us a review of where we are and where we’re going at the state level. She spoke of the chance to redirect our support from the failed victory junction project to the rock springs youth camp. New efforts to grow membership are being implemented. The eliminate projct is going well. She claims you’ll be able to see us singing ‘Shawnee’ on the KS District Facebook page!
Rodney Knott, CEO, shared the story of ReEngage staffing services. They’re dedicated to fostering the reconnection of the black male with they’re children through outreach, counseling, education, and preparation. As part of their program they offer a construction labor staffing solution that helps meet Section 3 requirements.
Jason Slattery gave us an update on Heart to Heart including their new program to help local school’s with their medical needs.
Barbara Flanigan and Kimberly Allen shared their story about Marillac with us today.
Lieutenant Mullens gave us a fascinating look at the history and purpose of the Civil Air Patrol.
